The artist has given the full amount of his twenty-five thousand pound honor winnings to the trust for venues, which works to save the United Kingdom's independent music venues.
Fender was given the award on 16 October as his new release his work was chosen as the outstanding release of the past year.
He has chosen to give the cash to the MVT, in appreciation of the vital role grassroots venues played in his initial steps.
"As an artist couldn't be pursuing this success if it weren't for all the performances I did around the area, and elsewhere, when I was beginning," said Sam Fender. "These locations are renowned, but they are facing challenges."
Since the start of 2023, over 150 of these spaces have permanently closed – about 16% of the whole industry in the UK.
In the last year, major artists including the band Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the MVT in its efforts to support the industry, by adding a small levy to their ticket prices, which benefits smaller concert halls.
He also participated, generating more than £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to help numerous local spots across Britain.
The donation assisted spaces that were facing potential shutdown due to challenges arising from floods, blazes and family tragedies, as well as permit problems, conflicts and neighbor objections.
Additional spaces obtained financial assistance in improving facilities and sound and lighting systems that positively impacted artists and concertgoers.
"The notion that funds from concerts in large arenas backs the local stages, where it all starts for artists like me, is just sensible," Sam Fender has stated.
He is far from the only musician to give his Mercury Prize prize money to worthy causes.
Back when Pulp won the trophy in the year 1996 for their record Different Class, lead singer the singer announced that the group would contribute their prize money to the non-profit the charity.
During 2002, artist she shared her award among a few organizations, like the children's charity and a Sickle Cell charity.
"I also donated a thousand pounds to the center, to their gymnastics program, because I trained in gymnastics when I was younger and they required new equipment," the artist told outlets.
Two years ago, Ezra Collective gave their funds to the community center that developed their act, alongside other local music groups.
And the 1994 recipients M People donated their winnings to a charity for MS after a acquaintance was identified with the illness.
"Receiving the award was sufficient," stated singer the singer. "The prize was the extra but we didn't require the bonus, because we had the main prize. So our success impacted the lives of others."
Last week, the Music Venues Trust shared it had saved several local spots in south-east England, by bringing them into public stewardship.
The first in the city and the second in Bristol were bought under the community ownership scheme, which is funded by Arts Council England and music fans who acquire "shares" in the buildings.
