Around fifty vehicles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Officers say they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then found multiple other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say preliminary tests suggest the fluid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; officials are not yet aware of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the residents for information.
A high-ranking official stated the incident made him without words and required to be solved promptly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, mentioning the death of nine victims by a shooter aiming at individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
